MR Spotlight | Juco Report (Men's)

Updated: Feb 9, 2021

These will be teams in watch this season in Michigan playing Junior College Basketball. The MCCAA is loaded with talented teams and players this season!! Games begin the week of February 8th and the schedule can be found HERE. Plenty of talented college-level players to recruit on many of these rosters coaches!!

SCHOOLCRAFT COLLEGE | @OcelotHoops

LOADED!!!! Coach Corey McKendry has put together quite the recruiting class coming in after a team that went 28-4 the previous season. This season they come in preseason ranked #4 in the country!! Having to reload won't be an issue even after sending a few players to the next level. A good mix of returning players, newcomers and NCAA DI transfers will have the Ocelots ready for every opponent!

MOVED ON

Tre Harvey (Northern Michigan) , Kemon Bassett (Lake Superior State) , Zavon Godwin (UT-Martin) Bryce Hunt (Coppin State) and David Wren (Lake Superior State).

TOP RETURNERS

D'Quarion Cole | 6'4 Wing - Averaged 11.7 ppg, making 61 threes at 37% and lead the team in rebounding at 7 rebounds per game. Cole has a much improved body and receiving tons of MM interest for his size and shooting ability.

Randy Gilbert | 6'6 Forward - Great post defender who will see a much bigger role inside. Gilbert will be the anchor on this defense taking care of the paint and rebounding.

NEWCOMERS & TRANSFERS

Jamoni Jones | 6'1 Guard (East Kentwood) , Jordan Whitford | 6'0 Guard (Detroit King), Marcus Gibbs | 6'2 Guard (Eastern Michigan /Spire), Shamar Howard | 5'11 PG (Lansing Everett) and Two NCAA DI Transfers TBA.

MUSKEGON COMMUNITY COLLEGE | @CoachBooth

Coming into the 2020-2021 season with 18 straight wins from the season before is a great start but they still have a lot to replace. Seeing five starters move-on to play at a 4-year college, replacing those guys will be hard but not impossible. The Jayhawks also found themselves ranked #5 in the national pre-season rankings too!

MOVED ON

Kylan Shipp (Lindsey Wilson), Travez Nyx (Lindsey Wilson), Jermayne Golidy (Brandon University), Jerome Bivins (Benedict College) and Vejas Grazulis (Ferris State University).

TOP RETURNERS

Christian Simmons | 5'11 Point Guard (Chicago, IL), Jackob Martinson | 6'6 Forward (Big Rapids, MI) and Julian Walker (Henry Ford / Detroit, MI).

NEWCOMERS & TRANSFERS

Devon Bryant | 5'10 Guard, Noah Current | 6'9 Center, Ty Oldham | 6'2 Guard and Jeff Sultzer | 6'4 Guard.

We spoke with Head Coach Jimmy Booth and he had this to say about his 2020-2021 team...

What does Preseason Top 10 do for your program?

I think it's a big deal anytime you can be ranked nationally and get your programs name out there. It is the product of a lot of hard work by a lot of people and I think it shows people that we are a top-notch program on the national level. At the same time, it does not mean anything if we do not back it up on the court with our play.

What would you want people to know about your program?

I want people to know that this is a program where you will be developed and supported as player but also as a person and student. I want people to know that coming to MCC means you are going to compete for championships year in and year out and get opportunities to go to a 4 year on a scholarship.

HENRY FORD COMMUNITY COLLEGE | @HenryFordHawks

Coach Shepard has developed Henry Ford CC into being a very respectable and notable team in the this conference! Losing one of the top Juco guards in the state last season in Leon Ayers (Mercer), is tough but he brings in a high-level NCAA DI transfer in Carrington McCaskill. Last season, they ranked 4th in the country in made threes with 109 coming from guard Daniel Autry.

MOVED ON

Leon Ayers (Mercer) , Cortez Jackson (Wayne State) and Da'Vion Moore (Concord U).

TOP RETURNERS

Daniel Autrey | 6'2 SG, Cameron McEvans | 6'0 Guard, Julian Savoury | 6'7 F/C, Joel Knighton | 6'5 Forward, Ricky Dixon | 6'4 Guard

NEWCOMERS & TRANSFERS

Carrington McCaskill (Florida Int.) | 6'8 Forward, Brandon Michrina (Urbana) | 6'4 Shooting Guard, Sergio Stephens (Siena Heights) | 6'0 Guard, Lorenzo Wright (Belleville) | 5'10 PG and

Riccardo Colvin (Wayne Memorial) | 6'9 Center

What Coach Shepard had to say about this season...

This is probably the most athletic and talented team I've ever had. On top of that, this team is extremely hard working and we will have to compete with anyone in our state and beyond.
